Two 11-year-old residents of Cables Wynd House in Leith are being celebrated for their work to improve their neighbourhood through YMCA Edinburgh's youth advocacy groups. Edie Chaw and Tarek Hydara Estribio have been leading campaigns to develop their community, and their efforts recently gained international recognition.
Their work was highlighted at the 2026 YMCA World Council in Toronto, where YMCA Edinburgh's Chief Executive Officer showcased how organisations can create genuine opportunities for young people to lead. The recognition follows a successful year for YMCA Edinburgh, which supported over 250 individuals across its services, with 39 volunteer mentors providing support to 59 young people.
